Poppy Brown recently completed her Marketing Executive Apprenticeship with Databarracks through Oxford Professional Education. Read on as Poppy shares insights into her apprenticeship and how it positively impacted her role at Databarracks.

What was your background before starting your apprenticeship?

After secondary school, I took the route to do my A levels in media, Business, and Psychology while working multiple part-time jobs.

Why did you decide to sign up to the apprenticeship?

During school, I struggled with exams, due to my dyslexia, I received additional support with both exams and lessons. Although this helped, I found it very frustrating that I was unable to read and comprehend questions myself. After speaking with friends and family, I thought doing an apprenticeship would give me the option to develop these skills, as I would be learning firsthand.

How did you find studying an apprenticeship?

I have found the level 4 Marketing Executive Apprenticeship so helpful for developing my knowledge within the marketing industry, as well as my communication, time management, and other skills.  The apprenticeship has correlated with my job at Databarracks helping answer areas of uncertainty  and overall improving my work skills.

How did the apprenticeship support your daily work?

The apprenticeship allows you to begin working independently as your confidence and knowledge develop.  It made my daily tasks natural, meaning I could test my ability with campaigns. Knowing and understanding marketing theory gives me the freedom to reach out of my comfort zone and implement my knowledge in my work tasks.

Tell us about the company and what your job role involves?

I work at Databarracks is a Cyber Recover and Data Protection services provider. I am the marketing executive at Databarracks and work alongside the Senior Marketing Manager to develop and implement a marketing strategy that aligns with the overall business objectives.

My day-to-day tasks align with my goals to build brand awareness, improve customer acquisition, and build relationships with existing and new customers.

How does Oxford Professional Education support you in your apprenticeship?

Oxford Professional Education has been a huge support throughout my level 4 apprenticeship. They provide support, a friendly face to talk to and answer any questions regarding knowledge or my next steps to develop my marketing career.

Would you recommend this apprenticeship to others?

Yes, I would encourage and support others taking the route of doing an apprenticeship.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

Each day, week, or month is a stepping stone to opening up another career option. It isn’t the easiest way to get your marketing qualifications, but make sure you take time for yourself along the way and chat with the people around you for support. All the hard work and resilience you maintain will pay off.
