Shona Savage is currently completing her Level 6 Marketing Manager Apprenticeship with Weston Group PLC through Oxford Professional Education. Read on as Shona shares her experiences with her apprenticeship and the positive impact it has had on her career at Weston Group PLC.

What was your background before starting your apprenticeship?

I joined the Weston Group in 2022 as a Trainee Sales Manager after Sixth Form and then moved to a Trainee Business Development and Marketing Coordinator role. Before the apprenticeship, I completed the Level 3 Foundation Certificate in Professional Marketing and the Level 4 Certificate in Professional Marketing and Digital Marketing Techniques with Oxford College of Marketing.

Why did you decide to sign up to the apprenticeship?

I signed up for the apprenticeship as part of taking on a new role within the Weston Group. The apprenticeship is helping me delve deeper into Marketing, developing my skills and knowledge, in which I am able to apply to my day to day role.

How are you finding the apprenticeship?

I’m really enjoying the apprenticeship so far. The support given by the Oxcom team has been exceptional. I am gaining valuable insights, developing new skills, and feeling more confident in applying what I’ve learned directly to my role.

How does the apprenticeship support your daily work?

The apprenticeship supports my daily work by providing practical knowledge and skills that can be applied in my daily role. So far this apprenticeship has expanded my knowledge and supported me in thinking out of the box.

Tell us about the company and what your job role involves?

My job role involves getting exposure to a variety of areas in marketing from public relations to digital advertising from planning to implementation.

How does Oxford Professional Education support you in your apprenticeship?

Oxford Professional Educational Group provides exceptional support. They ensure 1-to-1 trainer visits once a month to constantly give feedback to help improve along with progress reviews and check in’s.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

Do not put too much pressure on yourself! The Oxford Professional Educational Group provides support whenever you need it. Make sure you allow dedicated time to switch of from you day to day role to focus on the apprenticeship.
