This Level 5 apprenticeship unit is designed for leaders, or aspiring leaders.

It explores how to set AI strategy, including building a strong business case, while balancing risk management and ethical practice. Ultimately delivering a sustainable and transparent AI strategy, in line with organisational goals.

Developing AI Strategy Apprenticeship

Our apprenticeship unit is flexibly designed, enabling us to align learning outcomes precisely with the needs of your organisation. We work in partnership with employers to shape unit selection, contextualise delivery, and ensure that every element of the programme reflects business challenges and objectives.

Our approach combines structured learning with practical, workplace-driven application, ensuring that learners develop relevant skills that deliver immediate value and long-term impact for your business

During time on the programme, learners will cover a range of core areas and topics, which include:

  • AI strategy and organisational direction
  • AI procurement, investment and adoption
  • Governance, ethics and responsible AI
  • Enterprise risk, audit and incident readiness
  • Leadership, delivery and organisational change
  • Communication, trust and external engagement
  • Workforce transformation and capability building

Learners must be 19 or older and work in leadership roles, or aspire to be, looking to upskill in AI leadership literacy, defining AI priorities and lead organisational change.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship unit, learners will gain the following technical knowledge and skills:

  • AI and automation concepts and models that support leadership decision making, and the limitations.
  • Role of organisational leadership in responsible AI adoption.
  • How to develop and implement organisational AI strategy.
  • Legislation, regulation and governance supporting safe adoption of AI.
  • Crisis and risk management strategies.
  • Awareness of existing, evolving and emerging AI technologies.

Technical skills:

  • How to identify improvements and opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Set strategic direction for AI and gain support from key stakeholders.
  • Analysis to identify if AI adoption is viable.
  • Ethics and value-based leadership and governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Approaches to workforce engagement and retraining.
  • Horizon scanning to identify new developments that have implications for AI use.
