The Data Technician Apprenticeship equips learners with the knowledge and skills to securely format and present data for analysis, before communicating outcomes to a range of audiences. Apprentices learn how to analyse both structured and unstructured data from multiple sources, while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.

This Level 3 apprenticeship is suitable for data support analysts, data technicians, junior data analysts and junior information analysts. It develops the ability to source, collect and summarise data, create effective reports, and set priorities within the context of a project.

Apprenticeships

For apprentices aged 16-18, achieving Functional Skills qualifications in Maths and English is mandatory, unless you have already obtained the equivalent GCSE at grade 4/C or above.

For apprentices aged 19 and over, undertaking Functional Skills is optional but must be agreed with your employer.

Upon completion of the apprenticeship, Data Technicians will gain the following knowledge and skills and will be able to exhibit the following behaviours:

Knowledge:

Data format and Data Assets – Understand the core principles, formats and importance of data analysis and storage systems. Be proficient in accessing, extracting, and blending data from multiple sources, while adhering to industry standards for collation and formatting.

Legal – Recognise the importance of legal and regulatory requirements. This includes data protection, data security, intellectual property rights, and data sharing regulations.

Communication and Customers – Use both management and presentation tools to visualise and review data characteristics. Be able to communicate insights and findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Skills:

Data Collection, Preparation and Evaluation – Understand the foundation of data work, having the ability to source, migrate, collect and format ensuring the data used for analysis is accurate, reliable and presentable.

Analysis and Interpretation – Application of tools and techniques to identify trends and patterns, in order to extract meaningful insights from the data.

Communication and Presentation – Communicate data findings across various audiences meeting their understanding and needs.

Behaviours:

Organised and Proactive – Demonstrate structured work habits and taking initiative in managing projects efficiently.

Time Management – Prioritise tasks to meet deadlines in data preparation and analysis.
