The AI Leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation – apprenticeship unit is for leaders tasked with setting direction of new AI systems and having responsibility for successful implementation.

This practical unit, which consists of 30 hours of guided learning, supports participants, by focusing on the skills to align strategic AI adoption with its successful integration on a day to day basis.

During the unit, participants will learn to manage the workforce impacts of AI, including re-skilling and job displacement. It also builds participant confidence by equipping them to communicate effectively internally and externally, understanding the risks and opportunities of the new AI system; and embedding solid governance throughout.

Apprenticeships

Our apprenticeship units are delivered through a blend of virtual and face to face sessions, let by subject specialists. We offer bespoke, flexible delivery modes and times, to suit each employer; and these can be continually varied throughout the 30 hours of guided learning.

During the time on the AI Leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation – apprenticeship unit, participants will cover a range of core topics. These include:

Leading delivery of AI-enabled organisational change: to ensure AI solutions are sustainable and aligned to long-term organisation objectives.

AI adoption impact on the workforce: including re-skilling, role redesign, potential job displacement and workforce reduction.

Implementing AI risk management: including monitoring, use of tools, mitigation and escalation.

Audit requirements and regulatory compliance: incident and security response planning.

Monitoring performance and risk of deployed AI systems: including bias, drift and security vulnerabilities.

Communicating AI risks and opportunities internally and externally: including with non-technical stakeholders and regulators.

Apprentices must be aged 19 years or over and in a leadership position within an organisation. They must have autonomy to deliver technological change and inform investment decisions.

Once the AI leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation – apprenticeship unit is completed, leaders will be able to exhibit the following technical knowledge and skills.

Technical knowledge:

  • AI and automation concepts and models that support leadership decision-making and their limitations.
  • The capabilities, benefits and risks of automation, AI and digital tools.
  • Understand how to develop and implement organisation AI strategy and plans, including approaches to workforce development, monitoring and evaluation, and quality assurance.
  • Governance principles to ensure accountability and compliance.
  • Principles to support project and change management delivery.
  • Principles and practices for the long-term monitoring of AI and automation solutions.

Technical Skills:

  • Set strategic direction for AI and gain support from key stakeholders.
  • Commission analysis to identify if AI adoption is viable and use evidence to inform governance of AI adoption.
  • Ensure sustainable and efficient AI and automation solutions.
  • Apply principles relating to ethics and values-based leadership and governance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Use project management knowledge to support the development of clear, balanced AI communications and briefings.

The AI leadership – AI delivery and organisational transformation – apprenticeship unit is intended to boost leadership capability in managing high-level AI system delivery and implementation. A natural career progression from this apprenticeship unit could be into positions, such as: Digital Transformation Manager, Governance or Compliance Leadership roles, linked to AI adoption and delivery. Or Change or Programme Lead positions for AI-enabled implementation.
