Jasmine Thompson completed her Level 6 Marketing Manager Apprenticeship with TotalEnergies Ltd UK through Oxford Professional Education. Since completing her apprenticeship, Jasmine has secured a new role as a Marketing Manager. Here, she tells us what it’s been like to study for the apprenticeship and what she’s learnt along the way.
Why did you decide to sign up to the apprenticeship?
I studied Marketing as part of my degree and after graduating in 2017, I worked as a Marketing Executive at several major companies for over 4 years. The apprenticeship was part of a new Marketing Executive role I was offered at TotalEnergies Ltd in 2021. I saw this as an opportunity to get back into education and improve my professional development, plus I was keen to acquire a recognised certification to help me progress into a Marketing Manager role.
How did you find the apprenticeship?
It was challenging but rewarding. I loved learning about new marketing theories and concepts and applying them to my role. The comprehensive topics covered helped improve my knowledge to think strategically and developed my marketing leadership skills. The flexibility of working and studying, and balancing both helped me prioritise and organise my time.
I am extremely proud to have achieved a Distinction in my Level 6 Marketing Manager Apprenticeship. I am grateful to my Lecturer, Mentor, and Manager who continuously supported and encouraged me, and shared valuable insight to help me succeed.
How did the apprenticeship support your daily work?
I was able to get involved in a broad range of marketing activities, working across the wider marketing team and commercial business. This was beneficial because it gave me an all-rounded perspective, essential to the apprenticeship criteria, and meant that I could expand in areas outside my remit. I was also entitled to 8 hours of studying each week, inclusive of my role.
Tell us about the company and what your job role involved.
Within the TotalEnergies Ltd Marketing subsidiary, I worked across multi-channel businesses including Lubricants (Automotive and Industrial), Bitumen, Aviation, Special Fluids, and EV charging. My job role involved working with agencies and suppliers, executing marketing promotions, developing email campaigns, coordinating branded materials, organising events, generating leads, innovating and improving digital tools, conducting market research, and pitching new project ideas to stakeholders.
How has Oxford Professional Education supported you in your apprenticeship?
The staff were exceptionally friendly and responsive, always on-hand to answer any questions. They provided ongoing 1-to-1 support with regular communication updates, meetings, and progress reviews.
They also offered free optional short courses to update your marketing knowledge. I undertook two 5-week courses in Social Media Advertising and Compelling Copywriting. This was useful when it came to reviewing the social and comms strategy in the business.
Would you recommend this apprenticeship to others?
Yes definitely, the experience gained is valuable as it refreshes your marketing knowledge with the up-to-date theory. It can give you an advantage in your workplace to progress and it can be seen favourably by future employers. It helped me to progress and secure my new Marketing Manager role.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship?
If you get the opportunity, go for it! It could open the door to many more opportunities in the future. Just make sure you prioritise your workload and keep a logbook of your learnings and achievements as this will be crucial for your end-point assessment.
