Lucy Brogan is currently completing her Marketing Executive Apprenticeship with CIEEM through Oxford Professional Education and tells us what it’s been like to study for the apprenticeship.

What is your background before starting your apprenticeship?

I went to Peter Symonds college and did A level Law, Media and Sociology. This is where I realised I had a real interest in online and offline media marketing. However I wasn’t 100% how to get into it and what the best route would be so I spent just under a year working full time. Looking back at my education I found that I never really enjoyed the full academic side of school and college, and found that I learned a lot better in practical scenarios and through on the job learning. I then decided that an apprenticeship would be a suitable route for me.

Why did you decide to sign up to the apprenticeship?

I decided to sign up to this apprenticeship as this specific course as it seemed really well suited to what I was looking for compared to other marketing courses that were available. I was also attracted to the fact it was a level 4 as my aspiration is to get as many qualifications as possible and work my way up.

How are you finding the apprenticeship?

I have really enjoyed every element of the apprenticeship. The learning side has been so interesting and fulfilling and its been amazing to put all of my learning into practice within my job role.

How does the apprenticeship support your daily work?

The apprenticeship course fits in so well with my daily work as all the learning I do gives me confidence in my job role.

Tell us about the company and what your job role involves?

I work at CIEEM, Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. It is a professional body representing and supporting ecologists and environmental managers in the UK, Ireland and abroad. My time at work is split 50/50 between, CIEEM’s daily marketing activities, as well as a CIEEM project ‘Green Jobs for Nature’. I spend my time undertaking activities such as scheduling Social media posts, eNewsletter’s, making edits to web pages, Reporting and many other things.

How does Oxford Professional Education Group support you in your apprenticeship?

Oxford college have been really helpful in supporting my learning. My tutor, Naomi, is so engaging in sessions and any questions I have she is always happy to answer them as well as take a different approach to content if I need extra support. The 1-1’s and progress review’s the college offer are really helpful and give me the extra support I need now and again.

Would you recommend this apprenticeship to others?

Yes, definitely, an apprenticeship is a great way to earn and learn!

What advice would you give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship?

The advice I would give to someone thinking of starting an apprenticeship would be don’t be afraid to ask as many questions as possible. Be a sponge and take in all the info you can whilst you have the opportunity!
